For all LA transplants that miss the sushi from Sugarfish, you can now rejoice! This very well regarded sushi restaurant, with multiple outposts in LA, has finally opened up shop in the Flatiron section of New York City. They offer very high quality sushi at reasonable prices. We had the opportunity to stop by recently, and can happily say that the sushi lives up to all the hype!
Most people will go for one of the three pre-fixed options listed on their menu: Trust me Lite, Trust Me, and the Nozawa Trust Me. The Nozawa option will allow you to try the most of the three options, priced at $45 for lunch and $51 for dinner. Its worth noting that this is a “no tipping” restaurant and the only thing you have to add to the bill is the sales tax.
While most people will see these prices as being on the higher end, we can definitely say that the quality of the fish you are receiving is top notch and makes the price reasonable. The warm rice below each type of fish adds a taste combination that must be tried to be appreciated. We particularly like the albacore and scallop sushi, which was the special of the day. With the Nozawa you will get edamame, Tuna sashimi, 12 sushi pieces, and 2 hand rolls. If this is your first time, I would suggest this option to experience as much of the menu as possible.
The lines we have seen and experienced can be quite long. Your best bet is to get there for lunch about 10 minutes before they open at 11:30am. You can put your name down and they will text you when your table is ready. Make sure your whole party is present to be seated.
